Bordeaux has two major professional sports teams:  The Girodins de Bordeaux , a football team (what Americans refer to as soccer) in the French Ligue 1, and the Stade Bordelais , a rugby team with membership in the French Ligue 2 Rugby Championship.

The Girodins de Bordeaux team has a long history in the region.  They were formed in 1881 and have won the French Ligue several times.  Their home games played at the Stade Chaban Delmas, a stadium which holds over 30,000 people, are very popular among the Bordelais as well as with visitors to Bordeaux from other parts of France and Europe.

Stade Bordelais is known for their skill and strength on the rugby field, especially in those countries where the sport is popular in Europe, as well as in Canada.  They hold several championship titles.

Schedule and ticket information for both teams is available at their respective websites, which are written in French.  For information in English ask your travel agent or hotel or contact the Bordeaux Convention and Visitors Bureau.
