In 1997, a daily sports paper (L’Équipe) voted Montpellier as France’s most sporting city.  With this, it is no surprise that visitors to this city have plenty of sports and activities available to them. 

              With the area’s naturally beautiful surroundings, the golf courses around Montpellier are visually stunning.  Many people who visit Montpellier bring along their clubs and spend a few days playing on the public golf courses in the area.  Three of these courses are:

               Horseback riding is another fun activity available in Montpellier.  Various companies around the city offer guided horse tours, and certain ones will rent out horses for private day-use.  For more information, visit the Tourist Information Office in the city center.

               Seeing that Montpellier is located very close to the Gulf of Lion, water sports are popular with visitors.  There are numerous swimming areas located minutes outside of the city center, and certain beaches offer water sports such as jet skiing, kayaking, parasailing, and more.  For more information, visit the tourist office in town.
