Lille, being the fourth largest city in France, has a lot of things to do at night and its fair share of partying to be had. Still, since it is a city of only a little more than 1 million inhabitants, it still has a nice local feeling to it that makes you feel welcome. One of the things the locals like to do in Lille is sit out by cafes and drink coffee. This is more common in the earlier part of the night, but it can often go on all night if the conversations are good. Nothing beats sitting in a cafe in France with friends and enjoying the weather. If you are in Lille during the spring or summer you will enjoy some great weather, and you can just sit out all night. Another thing to do is go to some bars and clubs in the city. Many people from all over the surrounding towns come into Lille for the larger bars and clubs. The French aren't known to go absolutely insane in bars and make fools of themselves however. If you see people drinking excessively and acting wildly, they are most likely tourists. If you want to blend in well while you are in Lille, just enjoy some wine and take it easy. Then you can take a stroll down the courtyards or Old Lille and look at the scenery. This is a great way to spend the evening.
