Most Germans speak not only German (Deutsch), but also excellent English as a secondary language, especially younger Gemans. Almost all Germans speak at least some English, although some may be shy about it. Many West Germans are also conversant in French, while many East Germans may be conversant in Russian. It is not uncommon for many Germans to be polyglots.
