Cuvillies Theater interior was dismanteled and stored for safekeeping during the bombing raids of World War II

The Cuvillies Theater is part of the Residenz palace complex and was built in 1751-55.  Remarkably, the gilt Rococo interior was dismantled and stored during World War II bombing raids and survives today in all its splendor.  Mozart's Idomineo received its world premier in  this theater in 1781.  Tours of the theater can be arranged through the ticket office of the Residenz.
