Your children won’t be bored in Augsburg as long as you supplement your sightseeing with things they will enjoy doing.

If you’re visiting in the summer, head for Lake Constance for a simple, quiet day on the lake. This lake is beautiful, and forms a border between Germany, Austria and Switzerland. You can go scuba diving, fishing, windsurfing, rowing or swimming. Hang on the beach and watch others, for a lazy day, or rent a bike and enjoy some of the 167 miles of bike trail that surround the lake.

Kids love Ravensburger Spieleland, a playland that’s located outside Augsburg between Ravensburg and Bodensee. Here, kids can play fireman and shoot real water into old buildings, visit a farm and play in other areas. There are seven specific “worlds” to visit here, including the future and an adventure land. The park is open April through November.

Don’t discount the interest of your kids in the town’s interesting and historic architecture. If your children are from a more modern country, such as the United States, seeing buildings that are hundreds or a thousand years old can be an eye opener and absolutely fascinating to them. They might grumble at first, but if you are prepared, they’re sure to have a good time. Bring along a good travel book, so you can tell the kids about the buildings they are seeing and what they mean.
