Kornelimuenster is a picturesque little village about 10kms southeast of Aachen, to be reached by bus (nr 35, 55, 65, 166) from Aachen city centre. The village started its history as the location for an abbey, built by the Charlemangne's successor, Ludwig, in 814. Later in the 9th century, the abbey received a number of relics which are still on display today, since 1349 this happens every 7 years.

The market square and the St Cornelius church which is located on the site of the former abbey, are worth a visit. Walk around the church until you see steps leading up the hill, this will take you to an old graveyard with fantastic views over the village and the surrounding hills.

Special tip: buy an ice cream from the little ice cream shop on Napoleonsberg,  it's reknown throughout the region.

For a nice walk in the woods, follow the path along the little river into the forrest, it is easy to navigate and if you cross the river and head uphill, you wil get to a little chapel.

If you continue n the main road through the village you will see signs to "Varnenum', roman ruins, discovered about ten years ago (10 min drive).
