Granada is a great city for nightlife. It is a smaller city than Madrid or Barcelona, but many visitors agree that this adds to its charm because you feel more at home and get a real sense of belonging. In some of the larger cities you can feel lost or unwelcomed, and if you do not speak the language this can especially be a problem. However, the locals in Granada are excellent hosts and truly know how to show visitors a good time. There are great bars in the downtown section and west side of the city. Granada is a center of tapas culture in Spain, and going out for drinks and tapas is very popular among Granadinos and visitors. The city houses a large university, which also adds to the nightlife. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday are especially busy nights in the bars and clubs in Granada. Another nice thing about this city is that there is a small brewery located in the city, and the beer is sold almost everywhere in and around the city. This beer is extremely inexpensive, which is a very nice thing if you are planning a trip on a tight budget and want to be able to go out for a night on the town. You can also take a stroll through the city with some friends and take in the sights at night, which if are lit up, can be quite nice to see.

For tapas places and bars, look around Plaza Nueva, Paseo de los Tristes, the central Albaycin, and Calle Elvira.
