Church of San Gil Abad

The Church of San Gil Abad is located at Calle de Don Jaime I, 15. It is a church built in the 14th century in the Mudejar style, but the church had Baroque alterations made in the 18th century. The church has one nave with two polygonal apses on each side, with chapels between the bulwarks. There is a tower with the Mudejar style and made of brick, finished in 1356, with a square plan at the bottom that becomes rectangular at the higher levels. It is decorated with arches that cross each other. The main entrance was constructed in 1640 in the Baroque style and has an arch with pilasters on either side. The interior is topped with a vault with lunettes. It is decorated with Baroque plaster moldings. The main altar was made in 1628 and is dedicated to San Gil Abad. The sacristy was finished in 1779 and the vault has a fresco by Ramon Bayeu and there are seven paintings by Fray Manuel Bayeu. It was declared a National Monument in 1967.
