Founded in 1890, Teatro Arriaga is the hub for all performing art activities in Bilbao. Theatre, opera, musicals and dance shows have been featured in the theatre throughout its "dramatic"history that included fires, contruction security and renovation problems until 1986 when it was reopened as we know it today.
Over the decades, Spain's greatest actors and actresses such as Marisa Paredes , Hector Alterio, Veronica Forque, Juan Echanove, Jose Maria Pou and many others have honored the theater's stage. Nowadays, modern and classic plays are staged. 2006 season includes Classics as Romeo and Juliet, to contemporary Ana in the Tropics; Cabaret and Visiting Mt. Green, Barroque Opera as Bajazet and concerts by Pablo Milanes and Raphael. Pretty eclectic!
For a complete schedule of the shows, check out their website at http://www.teatroarriaga.com. The site, in Spanish, Eskuera and English, includes the history of the theatre, interviews into some of the most prestigious actors that worked on the theater's stage, biographies of actors and artists that worked together in different theater and dance projects and a virtual gallery of some of the most popular shows.
