Lanzarote has a reputation as the quiet Canary Island, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t offer ample opportunities to party. The best nighttime activities for visitors to the island can be found in the town of Puerto del Carmen, particularly on the Avenida de las Playas, a street that seems to never sleep. The Big Apple club and bar, just a few streets away on Centro Comercial Atlántico, is also a good bet for dancing and drinks starting at 8 PM and continuing late into the night. The DJ’s here are excellent, but if it’s live music you seek, try Roof Tops, a disco bar that hosts a local band every Friday night.

Most resorts in Lanzarote have their own bars and dance floors, and while hitting up the hotel for drinks may seem antisocial, it is actually the best way to meet other adventurous travelers from around the world. If you truly are looking to be the only tourist in a room full of Spaniards, consider asking a native to suggest a club in Arrecife, the capital city. This is where most locals go at night.

A word of caution: “nightclub” in Lanzarote usually means brothel! If you’re looking for a dance club, use the word “discoteca.”

Alfie Moons Queen Victoria Pub is a fab night out.   It is a newly opened family karaoke bar.
