Puerto de la Cruz is known for its great shopping, there are shops to suit all tastes and pockets.

Although the Canary Islands are part of Spain, they are outside the EU, and are therefore partly tax free, so some of the items you buy there will be cheaper than in other European cities. These items include, but are not limited to, tobacco, alcohol, and perfume. The only draw back is that if you are returning to a European city, you will be treated as if you are coming from a non-European Union nation at customs.

Because of the increase in tourism, many designer and other popular stores have moved in, and they charge set prices like they do anywhere else, but like elsewhere in Spain the 'Sales' are at set times. There is only one big shopping center in Puerto de la Cruz, Centro Comercial Martianez. There is also a smaller one, known as Centro Columbus. On the outskirts of Puerto on the road to La Oratava is a new indoor shopping mall with all the 'high street' stores.

For those in self catering appartments, there is a good choice of supermarkets and small family run shops. Local food and wine is of good quality. There is often little price differance between the large supermarkets and the smaller shops so use those closer to your accommodation.

Many street vendors and merchants will line up their goods on the streets so they will catch your attention as you walk by. Some locals don't like this, as they think it cheapens the town, but it is a good way to find some things to buy. Mostly, you would see things like t-shirts, bags, and trinkets like shot glasses and key chains. As in many popular destinations, you will notice that you keep seeing the same types of goods being sold everywhere. Generally, they are around the same price, but if you shop around you might be able to find it cheaper somewhere else.
