The athletic activity that characterizes Santa Cruz de Tenerife takes place primarily on the beaches.
Of these, one of the most popular is
Las Teresitas
: a wide, long, idyllic expanse of shore that underwent a beautification in 1973 which transformed its sands from black to gold and allowed for the construction of breakwater so as to avoid the denigration of beach. Palm-trees make for the backdrop of this easily-accessible playa, a destination for all sorts of water sports and nautical fun.
The Taramite beach, located just off Anagan precipes, is as beautiful as it is isolated and dangerous. Characterized by beautiful black sand and craggy stone surfaces, winds and lack of access make this natural area more a destination for adventurers than family travelers.
Horseback riding (a great way to tour the shores) and golf are also popular here, as are beach activities ranging from fishing to paragliding to scuba.
