As every genius he has a special life and a special work. He was so little understood by his contemporaries but he has the good luck to meet some special people-like Eusebi Güell and Manuel Vicens- who appreciated his creations. Very well connected to his Catalonian roots and to the nature, he created wonders of architecture, engineering and art. School was something he had to get trough but he hasn’t met the expectations of the established norms. What genius has? He lived during the time of Art Nouveau and he is associated with this current but his work is something so special, so ahead of his time meaning that he must be evaluated like something different. His contemporaries mocked some of his work but million of people around the world travel to see his creations. He lived like a monk and was dedicated to his work. He died mistaken for a beggar, taken to the poor’s hospital and he was buried in Sagrada Familia –“the cathedral of the poor” where he worked his last years.
You can not see Barcelona without seeing Gaudi’s wonders: the street posts in Plaza Reial, La Pedrera, the Güell Park, the Güell Palace , Casa Batlló or Sagrada Familia!
