The most incredible view of Barcelona and getting there is really half the fun. Catch the Tranvia Blau on Balmes St. and Sant Gervais for a quaint trolley car to the base of the funicular which takes you the rest of the way up the mountain. The fare is minimal and there seems to be a ubiquitous coupon book which has a certificate for a free ride on the trolley. There is an outdoor bar at the base of the funicular which also has a very nice view. Be sure to visit the church at the top, especially the older lower level which is more Byzantine and ornate.
If you enjoy walking/hiking, there is a trail which starts just above the upper drop off point of the trolley. It is called Carretera des aigues and is a very easy trail which has several gently sloping switchbacks and arrives at the top of Tibidabo from behind the church. Leave an hour at least to do the walk. There is more than adequate signage to help you on your way. If you take the lower trail it will take you to the TV tower and to a beautiful little village . From there it is another 20 minutes up the road (paved) to Tibidabo. This is NOT a physically challenging trail. The slope is very gentle. The mountain is only about 1500 feet high and the trail starts about 400 feet above sea level.
The amusement park on the church grounds has a dozen rides as well as all the usual treats like cotton candy and hot dogs. If you are acrophobic you may want to stay in the courtyard and church area! Good luck!
