The culture of Vigo is an interesting one, due in large part to the fact that there have been numerous different influences on the people of the area throughout its history ( http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g18...). For the most part, the people of the area are considered to be a people of Spanish culture; however the area of Galicia in which Vigo is located is considered by the Spanish people to be quite different from the rest of Spanish culture. In fact, even the Spanish language spoken in the area is different from that heard in Spain . For additional information about the Galician culture, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galicia_...).
Most recently, the culture of Vigo was affected by an artistic movement known as “a movida viguesa”. This took place in the 1980’s as a direct result of the death of the area’s then-dictator, Francisco Franco ( http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/...). The movement was known primarily as a musical movement but also included other types of art. Like many movements, it was a combination of celebration, self-definition and artistic expression. This unique culture has begun to change recently with influences from an influx of tourism in to the area. Tourists tend to bring with them a global culture which is still being defined in today’s global world.
