How to reach the main port in Naples

Taking a ferry or hydrofoil from Naples to the nearby islands of Capri, Procida and Ischia - or to Sorrento - is a popular excursion. The seasonal service 'Metro del Mare' to the Amalfi Coast and Cilento area is discontinued at the present. Look at navigation sites for further informations.

There are three main docks in Naples: Mergellina, Molo Beverello (Stazione Marittima) and Porta di Massa.

Cruise ships and hydrofoils dock at Molo Beverello (near Piazza Municipio), while ferries dock at Porta di Massa. Hydrofoils to the gulf  islands dock at Mergellina too.

For a fast way to travel between the port, the main 'Napoli Centrale' station and Capodichino airport there's the specially-marked Alibus, whose route has stops only in those areas. Buy tickets (3 Euro each) from the driver, and validate them in the yellow box onboard.

At the airport, the stop is immediately outside the exit of the "Arrivals" area of the main terminal. For more details - on a page which is in Italian only, but with bilingual downloads - try here...Alibus

Its last stop is very close to the ticket offices for the hydrofoils at the Molo Beverello quay. To go from there to the section of the harbour used by the island ferries - the Porta di Massa - you'll find a free shuttle bus service on offer.

The Alibus is more convenient than ever but - particularly if traveling with heavy luggage - consider taking a taxi from the airport or train station - which will drop you right by the respective ticket offices, at a likely cost of some 15-25 Euro.... see the separate entry in this list about Taxis!

From Napoli Centrale there is also a cheaper and more frequent (headway 10 minutes) tram service (tram line 1) that runs from Central Station (piazza Garibaldi) through Porta Nolana station (circumvesuviana) and Porta di Massa dock, reaching Piazza Municipio and Stazione Marittima (Molo Beverello). Bus line 151 does the same route and goes farther to Mergellina and Fuorigrotta, but it's less frequent.

From Napoli Centrale station, you can reach Mergellina Port by metro line 2.
