The official site for the Vatican is glamorous and accessible, offering viewers numerous virtual tours as taste of the eye candy the traveler will feast on while there.  Still, the site wants a little in the translation, as lapses from English into Italiano are all too frequent, and links to empty pages can be a bit of nuisance.  When in Rome, you can do as the non-Romans do and check the physical presence of the Tourist Office, located just off the Piazzo San Pietro (or call 06-69-88-16-62).

Other webs for the Vatican abound, including subsections regarding the city-state at large travel sites like Frommer’s , Lonely Planet , and Presto Tours as well as numerous articles on the city’s history in popular magazines such as National Geographic.  Check here for a list of recommended reads regarding the Vatican.

For Tourist Information pertaining to greater Rome, check the official tourism site (or call 39-06-48-89-91).
