Trieste hosts a few different festivals at various times of the year.  One of the most well-attended is the Festival Internazional dell'Operetta, or the International Opera Festival.  Ongoing from October through May, this festival features international opera stars performing classic works, as well as new operas, for audiences at Trieste's historic Teatro Comunale Guiseppe Verdi.  See the festival's website for more information.

Two film festivals also call Trieste home.  The Festival del Cinema Latino Americano, or Latin American Film Festival, is held in the city each October and features the work of many well known and respected, as well as up and coming, Latin American directors.  The Festival del Cinema Alpe Adria is also held in Trieste; during the month of January this event features the new work of directors from Eastern and Central Europe.

For a few days each June Trieste also hosts the International Celtic Festival.  Here all aspects of Celtic culture and heritage are celebrated with live music, seminars, lectures and food.  See the festival's website for more details.
