Catania is a city rich in festivals and events. There are music, art, film and theater festivals year round.

The festival of Santa Agatha takes place in August, it is a religious themed festival celebrating the saint patron of the city. This three-day- festival includes an offering of candles, fireworks, and a procession carrying the image if the saint along the streets until it is returned to the Cathedral. 

Vulcanology, Festival of Music and Art takes place in July and presents world music as varied as jazz, soul funk, folk jazz, rock, and soul. The festival includes an art exhibition; the 2006 edition features the collection Tele da Sdario.

Etnafest is another music, arts and film festival; it is a multicultural event and it includes poetry recitals, conferences, readings, and film events that celebrate the history and geography of the peninsula. For calendar of events updates, check out their website at http://www.etnafest.it/.

Cantica is a festival honoring music from ethnic/traditional to modern genres such as jazz. It takes place in fall and people from all over the world visit Catania at the time.
