Climate

Syracuse experiences some of the best weather in all of Europe. In fact, it can be described as more African than European. Warmest months are in July and August, when highs are normally in the upper eighties, and lows in the lower seventies. The winter season is warm, and temperatures never drop below freezing. Highs in December and January, the coldest months, average around sixty degrees, with lows in the lower fifties. Locals say that there is always a nice sea breeze in Syracuse, so you never experience extreme temperatures. The water stays warm enough to swim in well into October or November. December through March are particularly wet, and the average rainfall can climb to 70-75 mm per month. Summers are dry and influenced by the sirocco, which is a hot, dry wind blowing from North Africa.

On and Off Season

Summer is the touristy season in Syracuse, so expect accommodations to be in scarce supply and much more expensive. Consider visiting Syracuse later in the year like September or October, when peak season is over, yet it is still warm. Hotel rooms can be surprisingly less expensive during the off season.
