Cafes
Part of any trip to Syracuse should include an evening spent sitting outdoors in an open-air cafe on the Ortigia, the island where the historic city center is located. Visitors and locals alike gather here each evening to have conversations, watch the sunset and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere. Order a cafe or cappuccino and enjoy some choice people-watching.
Bars & Clubs
Also on the Ortigia is a large concentration of nightclubs popular with young people. Most of these are located in the area between the Piazza Archimede and the Piazza Duomo. Also try along the Lungomare Alfeo, the promenade along the southwestern shoreline on the island where clubs have dance floors that extend out onto the beach for dancing beside the ocean.
Theater
The Ancient Greek theater in the
Parco Archaeologico regularly puts on performances of classical Greek plays by the likes of Euripides, Aeschylus and Sophocles. What better place to see these plays than in the amphitheatre in which they were originally performed? Also, this is the place to catch the Siracusa Greek Theater Festival, which happens every summer from May through July. Tickets are priced according to seating, and range from 30 to 50 euros.
