If you have visited Florence at least once, or somehow got overloaded with all the historic sights around town, or you want to see something new and exciting, a day trip to the nearby Fiesole is a must. This suburb town at about 1000 ft offers excellent aerial view of the whole Florence region. It is only 30-min bus ride (6 miles) away to the northeast of Florence. Ask your hotel frontdesk for the latest transit schedule. The center of town is Piazza Mino, where you get off the bus. On the west side,  there are some restaurants with outdoor tables that offer good view of Florence below. Lunch price is reasonable and food quality is good (Hotel Villa Aurora). To get the best panoramic view, you have to be able to walk up a steep street on the north side of Piazza Mino and go to the Convent of San Francesco. Halfway up there is a public garden that offers almost unobstructed views. On the grounds of the Convent, some views may be partially blocked, but that is the highest elevation you can get. Allow half a day for excursion. Or if you are seasoned traveller, have dinner there and enjoy the Florence city lights after dark.
