What to do after dinner?  

If you like music you could visit the Jazz Club "Bird's Eye" at Kohlenberg, not far away from Barfüsserplatz. Classic jazz as well as modern jazz is performed here, by groups not bigger than 5 musicians. Good athmosphere. International audience.

 The last resort for a beer is the Excalibur, situated in a narrow lane, 150 yards from Barfüsserplatz. Open til dawn. Mixed people from all social and ethnic groups. Music video clips.  Darts.

Still hungry. In this case you can have a warm meal and a beer /wine til 3 a.m. at  Restaurant Klingental (called "Klingeli" by the locals) close to Kaserne on the northern banks of the Rhine. Don't be astonished to find a mixture of well dressed people as well as workers and in a corner some prostitutes. It is common that these things go side by side in Basel. Folks are tolerant and don't care at all as long as the meal is hot and the beer is cold.
