Most of the visitors to the town of Zermatt go there for the skiing and the other snow-related activities the town and its surroundings have to offer. However, while in town most tourists take time to eat some delicious meals, spend their evening hours in any one of the many bars in town, and also browse through the shops that line the town’s streets.
The stores in town range from those that carry very fine items such as expensive watches, Swiss army knives, original artwork, and jewelry. However, there are also smaller shops that sell touristy items such as T-shirts, cuckoo clocks, and just about everything possible that contains a picture or an image of the Matterhorn.
Along with all of the non-skiing-related stores in town, there are many shops that sell skiing clothing, skiing accessories, and skis. Most of these stores also rent skiing equipment to any tourist who does not own their own equipment. The people who work at the stores can help anyone choose the best equipment to rent for a successful day on the slopes.
While in Switzerland, it is a must to shop for and buy some Swiss chocolate – which is available in many shops in Zermatt. Chocolate makes the perfect souvenir and gift to bring home to friends and family members.
