Lace up or slip on your comfy walking shoes and get prepared to explore Faro by foot. With its compact city center, walking around is the best way to get around Faro. Be sure to have a map handy, as after awhile, one cobbled alleyway pretty much looks the same as all other cobbled alleyways. Along the walk, you will see great examples of architecture from the sixteenth through nineteenth centuries (including buildings such as Paco Episcopal, Sao Francisco, Nossa Senhora do Pe da Cruz, and Se.)

If you want to travel further afield than the city limits, then you'll want to hop on one of the EVA buses, which provide cheap and reliable transportation throughout the southern region of Portugal.

You can view  bus maps and timetables in detail at Algarve bus info a website maintained by a local English resident.

There is also a reasonable train service from Faro out towards Portimao and Lagos, also to Tavira, Monte Gordo and Vila Real de Santo Antonio. Fares are very cheap in comparison with most of Europe. Details can be seen at www.cp.pt or here .
