Given its maritime and cultural history, it should come as no surprise that a number of museums in Faro concentrate on its history and relationship to the sea.

Museu Arquologico -- this museum features local archaelogical artifacts, including a Roman floor mosaic. The museum, located at Largo Dom Afonso III, is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Cost of admission is 2 Euros for adults.

Museu Etnografico -- collections at this museum center on the area's cultural heritage. Exhibits feature the traditional arts, such as ceramics, weaving, and traditional farming techniques The museum, located at Praca da Liberdade 2, is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Museu Maritimo --  this museum features exhibits that center on the region's maritime history. Models of boats abound along with displays of fishing tecniques. The museum is open Monday through Friday, 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost of admission is 1 Euro for adults.
