Visitors to Northern Portugal will have a difficult time NOT shopping while on vacation. There are many unique items to buy and it’s hard to not want to take some of them home as souvenirs. Some of the most popular items that tourist purchase are items made of leather, clothes, jewelry, and many different kinds of handmade crafts.
Leather is extremely popular and many of the small items for sale are made from the skins of sheep and lambs. The leather that comes from cows is usually made into clothing and jackets because cows have thicker skin which is more suitable for items that get more wear and tear. Leather can be found in indoor shops as well as local outdoor markets. Purses, gloves, wallets, and just about any other accessory can be found in Portugal . It is possible to try and bargain the prices for these items.
Most stores throughout Portugal are open from about nine in the morning until one in the afternoon. They usually close for two hours and then re-open from three in the afternoon until seven in the evening. Hours may vary depending on the season and the size of the store. Some are closed on the weekends, some are open on Saturdays, and some remain open every day of the week.
