The Santa Clara Church is located at Largo 1 de Dezembro. The old convent with the same name was built in 1416 and was completed in 1456. In the 18th century the convent was enlarged due to the larger number of nuns living there. The Franciscan Order of Poor Clares owned the church until the 19th century, when the last nun died. The church has a plain façade but the inside of the church is impressive because it is a Baroque and Rococo masterpiece, with a very large amount of gilding over wood. The façade is a combination of Manueline and Renaissance styles and dates to 1697. There are choir stalls and a very luxurious chapel that are outstanding. Other features of the church are the Gothic font, the Renaissance font, and the cloisters. Most of the decoration was added in the 17th century and there are a large amount of saints, cherubs and angels. The church is considered a Baroque and Rococo masterpiece.
