The nice part about traveling in Greece is that the country has a Tourism Police department, which is in place to help any tourists who encounter problems while traveling in the country. The people who work for the Tourism Police are trained and are able to assist tourists with most (if not all) safety-related problems or concerns.

Anyone is able to call the Tourism Police any time of the day or night. The phone number to dial from any telephone located in Greece is "171." The regular police department can be accessed by dialing "100" from any phone, and if there is any sort of health emergency, "166" should be dialed.

The good news is that Chania - as well as the entire country of Greece - is a very safe place to visit. The neighborhoods that exist in Chania are all relatively safe and should not be feared.

It's always a good idea to remain smart and not leave valuable items on display in a hotel room, and not leave a wallet in the back pocket of a pair of jeans. However, other than these small precautions, most tourists never experience any sort of safety or crime-related problems while in Chania.
