Nightlife in Stockholm is quite good, with lots of really beautiful people.
If you come on a stag night do not even think about going to the trendy spots. Bouncers in Stockholm are extremely picky. If you are in a large group of men without looking very trendy you will not get in unless you have beautiful girls in your company. If you want to get into the trendy places come really early before 22.00 then you have a better chance. Around midnight you have to be on the guestlist to be sure to get in. So call the nightclub in advance and ask to be put on the guest list so your evening will not be ruined by not being admitted entrance.
Make sure you dress up, get there early, and dont get too hammered too soon if you want to enjoy the clubs. Basically dont give them any excuses not to let you in. The most often used excuse is "you're too drunk", without any further comment, and you don't really have to look drunk or be drunk at all. The general feel of going out is "money", and its expensive, so make sure you buy that bottle of duty free liquor to take the edge off in the hostel before you go out.
The most famous (and infamous) places
Sturecopagniet (Sturegatan 2) huge and classic nightclub with beautiful interior. When you enter, it all looks like a big ballrom, with ateliers on both sides and a dancing floor with some lounges in the end in the middle. There are three different bars on the ground floor, one of them being a "semi-VIP" one (on the left hand). There's usually a bouncer guarding this area, although, not being very strict, this is often the most packed area of the club, so avoid. The other VIP-area lies above the club, on the first floor, and the entrance is up a staircase on the right hand (vis à vis the cloak room). Don't be surprised to see lots of people just posing instead of dancing or talking. After all, the main reason for clubbing in Stockholm is for a lot of people to get their picture on the site www.stureplan.se. Check out for yourself.
Hell's Kitchen (Sturegatan 2) this is were the former "Köket" was situated. It's in the basement of Sturecompagniet and opened in the fall of 2006. It's supposed to be one of the hardest places to get in to, but if you can get into the other places, you surely can get in here also. The clientele is slightly older than at, say Laroy, but you'll still find the 18-year olds with fake IDs. The interior is the opposite of minimalist and "death motives", such as skulls and bones is widespread. After all, this is Hell's Kitchen. The restrooms are pretty cool, they're unisex, with makeup tables for the girls. The big minus is that they easily get water leakage down there, so you'll have to go somewhere else, the closest place being Neu (this may have changed name and/or concept) or Sturecompagniet, in which case you could have trouble entering again. Tell the bouncers you're going.
Laroy this is the epitome of Stureplan clichés. The age limit is 18 years, which will be noticed. The big thing here is to have a very visble VIP-table and to buy the largest bottle of champagne. You should also have either white or red pants and your hair should be Patrick Bateman style. Actually, Mr.Bateman would be worshipped if he entered this club. If you're a girl, go for bleached, wavy hair, lots of lip gloss and smoky eyes plus a short dress in some light pastel color, preferrably in silk. Different types of sugary shots are popular among the ones that cannot afford champagne, and the music is guaranteed to be something you've heard before. This is the place all of Sweden's 16-year olds are dreaming of visiting, and that's why the queue is always so long, and so many get turned down by the bouncers.
White Room this club is also becoming a classic in Stockholm. It's very similar to Laroy, only slightly older guests. This is one of the few clubs open till 5am, so don't be here before 2, or you will get bored. The interior is white of course, and the music is good. Don't stay untl closing time though, unless you're dying to go on an afterparty with the desperate guys. You'll often meet actors and other Swedish celebrities here, by the way.
Spy Bar this is not really as infamous and posh as the other places. Actually, during the last years, they have been more of a "cool" place for the Stureplan hipsters and "intellectuals", the one taking a distace from the glamorama at i.e. Laroy just around the corner, or would like to think so. Entrance is easier here, and the interior is a little worn out, but still cool. It's furnished just like an old apartment typical for the neighbourhood. Rock stars and writers can be found here, plus some various bloggers, famous in Sweden.
Plaza Club (Birgerjarlsgatan)
Cafe Opera (the oldest nightclub and most internationally known)
Easier to get in more, diversified crowd, less brats
East this is the bar you go to if you couln't get into any of the other clubs on Stureplan. It's actually pretty cool, more relaxed and less pretentious. The wall decorations inside are special, lots of illustrated girls looking like Kate Moss. They have good drinks also.

Snaps (Medborgarplatsen)
