From the bus terminal at the central station, there are regular buses to/from the delightful seaside village of Marstrand, north of Gothenberg. It is not expensive, and takes about an hour to get there by express bus. If you are travelling in the summer months - and especially a weekend - get to the terminal in good time as the bus can get very busy.

Marstrand is unbelievably picturesque on a summer's day - blue sky and sea, and a plethora of skerries dotted in the water. The bus drops you off, then you board a chain ferry for the final leg to the island. There is plenty to do on the island - shops, restaurants, a castle (with tours and activities in the summer) and it is small enough to walk around. The views from the elevated inner island are stunning.

For a taste of the real Sweden, this is going some! Highly recommended.
