When visiting Graz you’ll need a good pair of walking shoes. Much of the old town district can be seen from foot, and while the city is large overall many of the attractions are actually fair closely. You can tan take in the various historical sights with ease.
If you’re looking to explore a bit more of the city, then you’re still in luck because Graz has an excellent public transportation network that makes getting around quite easy. There are city trams, buses and the railway that connect the city, the neighboring towns and villages, as well as places further afield. There are daytime and nighttime bus routes and it is generally easy to get to many destinations.
Cabs are also available throughout the city and can get you to your destination a bit faster than the buses or trams. These do cost a bit more, quite a bit actually as Austria has higher taxi fares than some of the neighboring nations. The cabbies are typically very honest about rates, but you should still confirm any fare issues before beginning the trip.
Driving in Graz is not recommended. The city is large and while it has decent roads parking can be extremely difficult, and the traffic is quite heavy at times.
