We took the Panorama Sound of Music Tour while visiting in Salzburg in Sept, 2009. The tour itself was reasonably priced and nice. There is a lot of walking involved when you get off the bus at a couple of locations so if walking is a problem, I wouldn't suggest it. You get to see the areas in Salzburg where the various scenes in the movie were filmed including the house that has the back terrace on the lake where the rowing secnes too plcae. Also the glass gazebo at Heilbrun Palace though a tour of the palace is not included. You drive by the fortress, but again don't go into it. The drive to the Lake Country makes this enough of a reason. We stopped at the hill overlooking St Gilgan and Wolfgangseeand what a spectacular view. We then proceeded on to Monsee the location of St. Stephens Church which is where the wedding scene was filmed. The church was under construction outside when we were there, but still beautiful inside. There alot of shops, ice cream parlor and coffee shops ther as well, and we had about an hour. Again it was a walk from the bus to the center of town.
The only compaint we had was that we were picked up at our hotel, but when we returned advised that there was no return transportation. WE had left our car at the hotel and could have simply driven into the city to take the tour had we known. We had to get a taxi back to the hotel as we were staying in Walls, a suburb of Salzburg about 12-15 KM away. Be sure you ask if you arrange for pickup how you will get home.
