With a roof covered with thousands of gilt copper roof tiles, the Golden Roof is a symbol of Innsbruck and overlooks the Herzog-Friedrichstrasse or the main street of the old town. The window and porch were added in 1500 by Maximilian I.
Perhaps Innsbruck's most famous monument, the Goden Roof is a three story balcony capped with 3,657 gold plated tiles on a porch built for Maximillian I. It was on this balcony that the emperor sat to observe the beauty of the Alps and the bustle of the town below.
