This page is an ongoing list of events that may affect accommodation in Perth and around Western Australia.

Visitors should be aware that Western Australian families tend to head both north and south during school holidays and this means accommodation can be fully booked out in popular locations such as Rottnest, so booking well ahead is advisable.

School "Leavers" Weekend - mid Nov each year

Leavers (also known as "Schoolies" on the East Coast) is a tradition where Year 12 students celebrate the end of their exams and high school. Kids usually head for Rottnest or the South West to "unwind". This may result in heavy accommodation bookings at specific locations. There may also be associated inconvenience such as noise late at night at popular destinations and road traffic congestion etc. More info http://leaverswa.com.au/

Some places will reserve accommodation for those who can supply proof of being a school leaver to remove conflict of interest. Alternately some other types of accommodation will go to great lengths to exclude these Leavers bookings as there have been incidents when previous  participants have not been well behaved or considerate of property or comfort of others.

Leeuwin Estate Concert, Margaret River - February: (dates not set at lime of last update)

More info: http://leeuwinestate.com.au/concerts/...

Accommodation bookings in the entire Margaret River area are always heavy for the weekend of this event.

The Leeuwin Estate concerts usually mean that visitors require bookings of a minimum 2 or 3 nights in local accommodation, as concert goers typically stay the whole weekend. Traffic in the area will also be heavier than normal before and after the concerts. Plenty of info on the official website Leeuwin Estate.

Concerts are usually held around Feb-April each year and may sell out long in advance of the main artist being announced.
