Located in the Central Volcanic Plateau on an island far, far away, getting to Rotorua requires much on-plane patience and world travelers are as likely to suffer jet lag upon arrival here as much as they would journeying to anywhere else on the planet.

Your flight will probably come into the Auckland Airport, and from there an hour long connecting flight to Rotorua almost finishes the job, as the area runways are just a fifteen minute drive to downtown.

If you choose to rent a car or take bus or coach, you can easily get into your hotel from either the Auckland or Rotorua airports, as highways are clearly demarcated and easily navigable.  Car rental and taxi service are also both available from the airport.

Should you choose to drive directly from other metro areas in New Zealand, consider that the ride from Auckland is three hours and from Wellington it is five.
