For first-time travellers to Christchurch, the city centre may seem quite devastated, with little progress being made in rebuilding it. However, a visit to the Transitional Cathedral, otherwise known as the Cardboard Cathedral, is inspirational. You don't have to be religious to appreciate the building, or the meaning it must have to churchgoers in the city. It is a simple, maybe scandinavian, style of design, and obviously completely removed from traditional church architecture. There is much debate locally about whether the old cathedral should be rebuilt in the original style; make your own decisions, but go and see it.
