There are plenty of museums and attractions in Christchurch to keep both the cultural and active visitors busy.
Canterbury Museum is one of the city’s main cultural attractions. Located only 500 meters from the city center (Cathedral Square), it is easily accessible by those exploring the city on foot. The museum is open every day (except Christmas day) from 9am until 5pm (5:30pm during the summer months). General admission is free and guided tours are available.
The Maori and Colonial Museum is a great place to visit for getting to know more about New Zealand’s cultural heritage. It is located at Okains Bay, which is a short drive from the city. The hours of operation are 10am – 5pm daily.
Visit Christchurch Museums for more information about museums in, or near the city.
The Christchurch Cathedral is the main focus of the city center. It is located in the middle of Cathedral Square (named after it), and is impossible to miss. The cathedral offers free entry for all, and its hours of operation are 9am – 5pm (M-Su) during the winter months, with extended hours during the summer months.
Many of the attractions that tourists to the area are drawn towards are the beaches. For more information, check out Christchurch Beaches.
