Launceston's biggest event is Festivale, which is a celebration of Tasmanian, food, wine and culture. Festivale is held each year in the beginning of February , which is the height of summer in Tasmania.   The celebration is held in Launceston City Park, and for three days visitors can come to sample local food, beer and wine and enjoy live music and entertainment.  See the Festivale website for exact dates and more details.

The Launceston Cup is Tasmania's premier horse racing event.  This race brings horses and riders from all over the country. The cup, and its associated Ball,  is held during the last week of February each year at Launceston's Mowbray Racetrack.     

Ten Days on the Island is another of Launceston's events, celebrating life in Tasmania.  This festival, held the first ten days in April, features local and traditional dancing, food, music, theater and film.  See the website for more details.  

Agfest is Tasmania's major agricultrural festival held over three days in May each year near Cressy, a small village west of Launceston.

Aurora Stadium at York Park hosts four "hone" AFL games for Hawthorn Football Club each year.

The Tasmanian Trout Expo is an annual two-day event held in Cressy, in northern Tasmania, approx 40 kilometers south of Launceston. Held over the last weekend in August at multiple venues around the little town, The Trout Expo is an exciting event where visitors can experience all things to do with trout fishing, including tackle demonstrations and sales, fly casting demonstrations and lessons, trout cooking demonstrations and delicious tastings, fashion parades of fishing and outdoor gear,  boats and accessories, interact with fishing clubs, fishing guides, get travel and holiday ideas. There are boats, environmental displays and information, camping and outdoor gear, clothing, art, food galore and kids activities.
