Lake Tenkiller is a clear water lake with depths to 165 feet.  It is famous for all water sport activities, scuba diving and fishing.  There are many areas surrounding the lake for camping and hiking.  Three state parks are in the general area.  They are Greenleaf, Tenkiller and Cherokee Landing State Parks.  There are also numerous Corps. of Engineers campgrounds located on the lake.

Yearly attractions feature a fireworks extravaganza free to the public.  2007 will feature a "Centennial Fireworks Extravaganza" to celebrate Oklahoma's 100th year.  This fireworks display is scheduled for July 4, 2007.  Many activities will occur on and around Lake Tenkiller to tie in with guest visitation prior to and during the 4th of July holiday period.

Nearby Gore, Oklahoma, is the "trout capital of Oklahoma" and trout fishing occurs on the Lower Illinois River as it exits Lake Tenkiller downstream. Visitors seeking cultural sights will enjoy the Native American museums and attractions.  History buffs can enjoy sightseeing at Ft. Gibson Historical site or the Batfish submarine in Muskogee.  Hunters will enjoy the game refuges nearby and wildlife enthusiasts can partake in bird watching or see the Sequoyah Wildlife Refuge.  Loons can be found on Lake Tenkiller in the winter months.

Definitely something for everyone in this beautiful region of Oklahoma.
