Sleeping Beauty

Disneyland is the place to go when you visit Anaheim!  The happiest place on earth first opened on July 18th, 1955.  Since then, it has been bombarded by visitors from all around the world.  Located in sunny southern California, the Disneyland Resort is a popular family vacation destination.  There are three Disney hotel options on sight, as well as numerous hotels located off-property and within walking distance.

On February 8th, 2001, "Disney’s California Adventure" was opened adjacent to the original Disneyland. Now known as "Disney California Adventure", with the change of name happening in 2010, originally was planned to cater more to adults with more thrilling rides, including California Screamin’ and the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, but Disney has added a lot of attractions for the younger ones, with things like Flik’s Fun Fair and Playhouse Disney  The park is themed after the state of California, celebrating the state’s beauty and culture with areas such as Paradise Pier, Golden State and Hollywood backlot. What distinguishes DCA from other Disney parks is that alcohol can be served.  "Golden Vine Winery" is the place to go to taste fine wine.  The Avalon Cove Bar next to Ariel’s Grotto has some great cocktails, including margarita’s and Karl Strauss Micro-brewed beer (7 different types on tap). Due to poor reviews and attendance of DCA, Disney is planning to spend an additional $1.2 Billion to improve the park over the next ten years.

During holiday seasons (starting in mid November until early January), Disneyland Park is decorated with beautiful holidays decorations.  One of the more popular features is the nightly fireworks show, which has a finale where it magically "snows" (Actually glycerin bubbles, so no mess to clean up).  Also, Disneyland has a special Christmas themed parade starting Thanksgiving week thru the end of the year.  But be aware, the last half of December is very busy, in 2005 Disneyland reached capacity and stopped selling tickets multiple days .

The best way to get tickets is to get them in advance, Disney gives a large discount for folks who purchase tickets for 3 days or longer (These tickets require that all the visits be within a 14 day period).  You can get these tickets when you buy a vacation package, or a la carte at  If you buy at the Main Entry Plaza, a one day ticket to Disneyland is $76 for Adults, $66 for kids 3 thru 9.  If you want to visit both parks on the same day, the price is $101 for Adults, $91 for kids 3 thru 9.

Other nearby attractions are in Buena Park, and include Knott’s Berry Farm, Knott’s Soak City water park, and two dinner shows, Medieval Times and the Pirates Dinner Adventure.
