Guatemala bus service has its hub in the capital, a dangerous place at night so try to arrive and depart when the sun is out .
Shuttle buses from tourist centers are a lot less rickety than the discarded school buses that comprise the city’s public transportation service. Also, thieving pickpockets thrive on these overcrowded vehicles, so if you can afford traveling in better class do so unless you would have this money source of yours get stolen.
If you take public transportation, be aware that it closes at 9 p.m.
Taxis should not be hailed—cab drivers prey on tourists. Call Amarillo Express, make sure it’s metered or that you and the driver agree on a fare before departure.
When exploring the city by foot, keep your eyes open, and not just for pickpockets: drivers in the city have little regard for pedestrians so you’ll have to do just a bit more than look both ways in order to keep your limbs intact.
Suffice it say that getting around Guatemala City is not for the faint of heart.
