Pick up a Flagpole Magazine, the alternative weekly newspaper.  It has just about everything you need to know about things going on in Athens, including performance schedules for the live music Athens is known for.  The folks at the Athens Welcome Center, or the info kiosk downtown outside city hall are also very friendly and helpful.  Take a walk down Clayton St. for awesome shopping and dining at unique, independent-owned places, and cross over Broad Street directly onto the historic North Campus of the University of Georgia, which was the first state-chartered school in the country.
