Maui, is a home of historic traditions and cultural uniqueness. Today, residents of Maui continue to practice and keep their ancient traditions alive for the next generation. It is rare that a visitor is invited into the 'real deal' - what s most often seen is the visitor oriented Hawaiian culture. The secrets of warriors, births, and naming are not common knowledge to the average visitor.

Music is an integral part of Hawaiian culture. Utmost respect is given to all traditional forms of Hawaiian music. All local muscians are first trained in traditional music before they will be honored as current or trending artists. They must pronounce Hawaiian words correctly, they must know the meaning of the songs by heart. There are stages of professionalism that up-coming artists are set to learn by.

The Hula has been in existence since ancient times, and is history, geneology, tales and stories. The dance is still performed today and continues to be a cultural tradition, with deeply rooted protocols, rules of order and hierchy.

Traditional Hawaiian Art are an important part of Hawaiians lives. With the loss of culture is a loss of identity.  All the cultural arts are taught in a very strict and regimented art form. Haumana study for years under a Kumu before being allowed to branch on their own, there is no such thing as "I was taught by a book or a video" only by a Kumu is there validation in the teaching.

Spiritual places

The land is sacred including the forests, the lava, the mountains which include Native Hawaiian gathering rights from the mountain to the sea - on private land, on State properties and ceded  land.

The ocean, the sand, the rocks, the reef and every fish are considered family to the Natives. To take, to exploit, to reap, to rape is very bad behavior.

The Hawaiian culture is to be deeply respected with protocols and privacy. Please respect the cutlure and ask to be invited rather than presume to be welcome.
