The absolute best way to visit the most famous surf spots on the North Shore of Oahu is riding the Bike Path. This is a great kid friendly activity on Oahu that the whole family can enjoy. The path runs from about four miles along the coast of the North Shore, which is home to some of the best beaches and surf spots in the world. Parking at beaches in the area can be a hassle because of limited available parking. Also there are many beaches tucked away hidden from the main street that are only accessible off the bike path.

If you’re lucky enough to be staying at a vacation rental in Sunset Beach then having a bike is a must. You can ride to Teds bakery, which is famous for its pies and a great place to grab a to go lunch or breakfast. If you are a big coffee fan then Starbucks is just a short bike ride away located next to Foodland. You can grab a cup of coffee and head across the street to Sharks Cove to enjoy your morning watching the waves.

Depending on what time of year you are visiting the North Shore there are dramatically different ocean conditions. ALWAYS check with a lifeguard before you enter the water here. May thru September are usually very calm and virtually flat when it comes to waves. Epic diving can be found at all the beaches but if you are on a bike, you can find those hidden spots on the coast.  Look for public access all along the bike path which are virtually hidden from the main street.

October thru March offers some of the most spectacular, biggest waves on earth.  There are several surfing event during these months that make up the triple crown of surfing.  The Eddie Aikau at Waimea Bay, The Pipeline Masters, Sunset Beach Pro and Haleiwa Pro are all amazing surfing events.

Traffic during the winter months and parking is a nightmare so renting a bike on the North Shore is a great call. Paradise baby Co. offers bikes for everyone, including bikes with child carriers, adult cruisers, youth bikes and pull carts for rent.  If your baby is too small for the child seat then renting a stroller is always a great alternative, Paradise Baby Co. rents BOB and Double BOB strollers. A walk on the shaded bike path was always a great way to put a baby asleep and get exercise.  Hope that your families trip to Oahu is wonderful and you get a chance to enjoy the bike path and beautiful beaches of the North Shore of Oahu soon. Aloha from the Islands!
