The most frequently used form of public transportation in Oahu is the bus system, called TheBus. The BusPass Office is located at 811 Middle Street in Honolulu. TheBus can be accessed online at www.thebus.org. TheBus can also be reached by phone at 1-808-848-5555, with customer service representatives available every day to answer questions between the hours of five thirty in the morning and ten in the evening.
TheBus serves all of the major areas of Oahu, including offering two different lines which run to the airport (one from Honolulu and one from Waikiki). There are several bus transit centers which make catching the bus and transferring between busses relatively easy. The Kalihi Transit Center is the most frequently used bus transfer center.
TheBus is a relatively inexpensive method of getting around Oahu. Each bus ride costs $2.50 and includes a limited-time transfer. Seniors, children (6-17) and individuals with disabilities are offered a discounted rate of $1.25 per ride. Children 5 & under free, one for each paying adult. Visitors can also purchase a four-day unlimited ride pass, called The Oahu Discovery Passport. The Oahu Discovery Passport costs $25 and can be obtained at ABC grocery stores, 7-Eleven convenience stores and TheBus Pass Office. Tourists can also ask about the Oahu Discovery Passport when visiting local visitor’s centers.
