Where to Stay

Most hotels in Tangier are dated.  You can tell they were built in the 60s and 70s when Tangier was bustling.  A lot of these facilites are not in anyway up to European and American standards ,but they are still advertised to book via the internet through travel sites.  If you stay at a 4 star hotel more and likely it will be between a 1 and 2.  You will pay close to 70 Euro a night on average for these rooms.  Your best bet is to rent an apartment for a few nights.  You can get a 3 bedroom place that sleeps 6 in a good location for close to 45 euro a night.  The best bet is to contact a local rental agent through the internet before you go ( This guy Ali is pretty good and has been doing this for years). If you must book a hotel and want the standards of an a typical western standard hotel stay at the Ramada, which is located right on the beach front in the city center.  It is twice the price of most of the hotels ,but it is not dated.  Location wise you want to be next to the beach in the city center.  Stay away from the Medina.  Even though it is one of the largest tourist attractions there it is also one of the ghettos of Tangier.
