If you are in Marrakech and want to find a day trip to the Ourika Valley, in the Atlas Mountains, the Tourist Office (Delegation Regional du Tourisme, Place Abelmoumen Ben Ali in Gueliz) can help.  You can hire a driver for about 600 dirhims for the day (about £37). The tour goes to see the famous waterfalls at the end of the valley.  A driver will pick you up at your hotel in a mini-van, and will mostly likely pick up people from different hotels.  For example, a tour could involve stopping several times en route to look in tourist shops, a Berber house, and a collective run for women who make products out of Argan oil - all very interesting!  However, people going on this tour should know that at the end of the valley, your guide may hand you over to another guide, who will lead the group for a 20 minute walk to the first waterfall (there was a series of 3).  The journey can become difficult, so wear good walking and/or climbing shoes - suitable footwear is imperative.  Think of  clambering up rocks at the side of the river, and eventually criss-crossing over wet rocks to travel up the mountain. The journey can be a perilous scramble!   Fortunately the guides are as agile as mountain goats and will help everyone keep their balance.  Also keep in mind that when you come down again (about 2 hours later), the guide will expect you to pay him; the average they ask for is about 150 dirhims (about £9).  It's not much but there most likely will be no warning about  this extra payment.

If you are going to the Ourika Valley take walking boots and/or ask beforehand what your tour specifically involves. Also look at all your options, including hiring a taxi for the day, to see what's cheapest and what works best
