This Museum has a wide variety of exchbits on three floors, telling stories from pre-historic, ancient and modern times. Of particular interest is the "Lucy" skeleton (found in 1974, named after the Beatles song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and said to be 3.2 mill years old) and displays from Haile Selassie's time on the Ethiopian throne. OPINIONS vary on this museum. Some eg Phillip Briggs of Bradt Guides think its great. Others see it is not very professionally done. The basement floor with Lucy etc is the best in terms of display. IF you only have time to do one museum in Addis most would agree tha the Ethnological Museum inside the main AA University campus at Sidist Kilo - ten mins walk north of the National M , is more professionally presented ( also takes longer to see!)
